In October 2024, Routes to Return Founder Amy Shakespeare utilised her experience and research to write a policy briefing urging the UK government to act on its commitment to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (2007) by prioritising repatriation through the provision of funding, training, and the creation of national policy.
The policy briefing has been discussed with colleagues at the UK’s Department for Culture, Media, and Sport, and was featured in a policy briefing and mentioned by Lord Boateng in the transcription of the House of Lords’ debate on ‘Human Body parts for Sale, on Display and in Collections: Law, Policy and Campaigns for Repatriation’ in March 2025.
If you work in policy and/or would like to discuss the briefing, then please contact Amy.
